I went running today and my 2 girls were running along with me. We were on the wash~ trail which is home to lots of animals. Today while we were running side by side with each other a large hawk type bird came swopping down and came within inches of touching all three of our heads. He swarmed around us for a while, we just kept running with our arms waving in the air. We all starting laughing because my brother told us this crazy story about a woman jogging with a high ponytail getting attacked by a bird. I thought he was teasing but after today I am wondering if there isn't some truth to it! I guess we will be running in low ponies for a while!
Total miles running from a Crazy Bird: 3.03 Time spent wondering if the bird was stalking me: 30:33
Today I turned the big 40! I celebrated by rolling out of bed, sliding into my workout clothes, and jetting out the door. I daydreamed most the run, remembering making fun of My Mom when she turned 40, wondering if my girls were now making fun of me. It was a great time to reflect on how far I have come and how far I plan on going! 6 months of running... 29 pounds lighter....
running, runner, exercise, healthy, fitness, mileage, speed, newbie runner Miles ran as a forty year old: 3.07 Time spent daydreaming: 30:44
That is right! Today was my last run as a 30~Something! Tomorrow is my big 40th birthday! I am not complaining, since I started running about 6 months ago I am in the best shape of my life! I hope to have a great run tomorrow as a 40 year old!
Today I think I am finally able to say I am a "runner"! Yippee! My Husband saw me while running down the street and said you look like a real runner out there! (I made him repeat it twice) That's pretty exciting to hear from him, because since the start he has been very "honest" about what I look like when I run. It took 6 months... but I feel like I am there! Where ever there is, that place I never thought I would ever get to,the place of it being a part of my life, the place where I don't ask myself why am I doing this, the place where I am the runner I want to be.
Where I live the main roads are all 1 mile to 1 mile from each other. The town is just a big graph. I have always wanted to run a complete square and since my normal run is only 3, I really wanted to run this square and today I did! I am a little upset because my phone rang during my run and when I hit the clicker on my headphones it paused my RunKeeper :( I didn't realize it until I was running along and said hmmm I haven't heard my time in a while and I looked and sure enough it was on pause!! I was sooo bummed out! So I am not really sure what my actual time was or my actual miles. I know it was at least 4 miles but I'm not sure how long it took me, I think I was gone at least 40 minutes.
This has happened to me once before, I think I need to set Runkeeper then hit my home button to get it off my main page so if I hit the clicker it won't mess with it.
WOW!! Seriously I am amazed at how much my body loves me back after a forced long rest! So I picked up the nice flu that has been going around, throw in a stomach bug, oh yah... I was a sick, hot mess! But FINALLY after 6 days of being down and out back on the road to recovery! I am not 100% yet but I was running today no matter what! And let me tell you I was HAULING! This is the fastest I have run ever. And it was awesome.
So while I was running along yesterday I was really bored so today I decided to run my route starting in the opposite direction. It kept my mind off my actual run because I kept comparing my time to where I was on the run in reverse. I am resting tomorrow for sure. My body was just screaming the whole run and I had problems getting quick mini sprints in. I am just running very neutral right now. My distance, my time all seems to have leveled out. I guess it is time to shake things up! (No idea how I will be doing this!)
I can only run longer distances on certain days due to time issues, and today was one of those days. It was a little warmer today than usual, I am hanging on to our amazing winter here in Arizona. Running in the spring and summer is brutal!
While I was out running today I was surprised to bump into an old friend on the street that I haven't seen in months! I ended up stopping to say a quick hello which turned into a few minutes. I pulled out my ear plug and didn't realize that when I hit pause on my RunKeeper it didn't actually pause..... making it seem like I had a S~L~O~W run. But I didn't! I was hauling and last I heard I was tracking at 9:36 minutes miles!
Check out that crazy increase LOL!
Distance running: 2.89 Time 32:34 running, runner, exercise, healthy, fitness, mileage, speed, newbie runner My stats for January 2013 75 miles ran 5.5 Miles Cycled
I didn't run yesterday because my daughter had a cross country meet and I am PROUD to say that she placed # 1 ~ 6th grade out of the entire district and placed 4th over all in district between 6th, 7th and 8th Grade!! She is amazing, she trains hard, works hard, and plays hard!
I did run today and was so happy to be out running! And was thrilled when I received this email after my run:
Now, where are you off to in such a hurry?
You tracked an excessively fast run with RunKeeper and Notch.me has a little something to say about that... Moving Violation: Carri has been cited for running excessively fast.
Yes!!! This made me laughhysterical because attached was a cute "ticket" It is the little things that keeps me motivated!
It was SUPER windy today! We are not used to this crazy weather that AZ is having. I ran into the wind in all directions and got chased by a dog. Which would explain the decline in my time. I think he went from chasing me to just running with me. He eventually gave up and started off in the other direction. It sure kept my mind off the run, I was too busy looking behind me the rest of the way!
I wanted to see my speed difference from when I ran with a partner and running the same route alone. My time was much better alone, maybe from us chit chatting? Even though my time was slower I still like running with someone!
It is raining in Arizona! It NEVER rains here! Since I have been running it has only rained 1 other time! I have bought and returned several sets of Women's rain gear, but I must have monkey long arms because all the sleeves were too small so I grabbed my Husband's rain gear and hit the trail. It was a good run, the big male coyote was hanging around but I was able to just run past him. Just over half way I thought I was going to pass out from being sooo hot in the rain jacket! I had to pull it off and tie it around my waist! It is supposed to rain until Monday and I plan to run everyday!
I have been a solo runner since the start, so now that I met a fellow runner and ran with someone else it is completely different to me! It probably would have taken me another month to cross the 4 mile mark, but running with a partner, I was able to run 4.22 miles! I was cautious when I ran and kept a slower pace than normal because I wanted to make sure I could make it home. But now that I have done it, I hope to increase my speed next time.
I hit the streets running today. I am really starting to like running outside my normal route, it seems to make the time go faster. I also run with only 1 music plug in my ear so I can listen for cars. This is helping me get used to hearing my own breathing. (Which I hate to hear!) My daughter Placed # 2 in her Cross Country meet yesterday. She ran 1.4 miles in 9:23! She rocks! Tomorrow I am running with a partner, I am going to try and run my first 4 mile run. I am pretty excited to try and push myself.
SIX of the longest days!! It is so hard to go from running daily to not even walking! But I listened, did as I was told and after 6 long days I hit the streets for my first run back! I was so relieved when I started running and I felt no pain in my foot!! I am just happy as a peach right now, knowing that tomorrow I can just get up and run!
I wanted to run farther but I did not want to over due it on my first day back. I plan on a slow and steady increase while preparing for my 8K.
So I am still down, My foot is still hurting and I can't put full weight on it. My Husband dusted off the bike and put air in the tires and I was on my way. I have no idea if this is even cross training?? I did feel a burn in my quads and tried to ride hard. Got a little tear in the eye when I rode past a runner....
I woke up yesterday and could barely stand on my right foot! Looks like I have extensor tendinitis.
It’s generally an overuse injury for runners, but it also can be
exacerbated by where you’re running; if you run on icy slippery surfaces
or very hilly terrain.
I am sooo bummed. This is my first injury since I started running besides my shin splints when I first started. The cure is rest, ice, compression and Ibuprofen. This is my second day of not running and I already feel like a caged animal! I just want to go out and burn a few and I can't even walk. It sounds like a few days of rest and see if the pain goes away. I am starting to think I need to consider some kind of cross training in case something like this happens in the future.
Arizona is in what they call an "Artic" freeze.... Coldest weather in decades. To us it is just the perfect weather and always say this is why we suffer thru the summer months. So today was colder than normal 46 degrees, my ears were feeling it just a tad. Still LOVED every second of the run!
I am in training for an upcoming 8K trail run, so I will be slowly increasing my distance on the days that I have more time. My hope is to slowly increase while maintaining a good speed. Total Miles Today: 3.25 Time: 33:06
I ran the trail today, a little scary I was running in one direction and I could see ahead of me a large Coyote standing in the middle of the trail. I slowed down because I have heard they can be agressive so I was about ready to turn around when guy coming from the other direction on a bike stopped and scared him off the trail. I was still nervous running past the area and with good reason, he was standing just a few feet from me. (So close my heart starting racing, What should I do if he comes at me??) But thank goodness he just stared and I just kept running, maybe even got me running a little quicker!
I had a horrible headache last night, I'm thinking maybe a migraine since it pretty much put me out of commission all night and today I dealt with a constant dull headache. Made the day super long! I really figured I would just take the night off and rest up. But of course once I got home, I could not justify a headache preventing me from running so off I went. Everything went great, we are having a bizarre cold front here in Arizona so it was awesome to run in 63 degrees which is cold for here!
Yippee! I was super excited to see my 9:39 minute miles today! Faster than my 5K Speed! (So exciting) Just a tad shorter run than usual but I felt like I could have run this speed with no problems. For the last 2 1/2 weeks I have run the same route and today I hit the streets and it just felt great out there! I kept telling myself you are doing it!
Thanks to my bestie RunKeeper:
Total Miles Running while feeling great: 2.87 Time: A smooth 27:38
I started off at a great pace but I was stopped by the man whose dogs chased us last week. He stopped me to laugh about his dog chasing us and how this time he had her on a tight leash and wouldn't slow us down..... I thought this was so funny since he stopped us in full run!
Talk about running against the wind! It was so windy I wondered how I ran against the wind in one direction and when I turn around, I was still running against the wind! I felt like I was in slow motion, I kept looking at my feet to make sure I was actually moving! My overall run was pretty good! I never thought I would be running 10 minute miles!
Happy New Year! I wanted to spend the first day of the new year having fun... so we went to RoadRUNner Sports! They have lots of running stuff! Grabbed some pants, a shirt, gloves and ear warmers! Stopped in at Red Robin for big Salads, then hit the trail for a run!
